newanalysisconfirmed From fuel synthesis to AI power: how Valar's stated purpose shifted between 2024 and 2026
undated · orig-063 · Valar Atomics, NVIDIA

2024-2025: the California filing gives the business as nuclear heat for fuel synthesis (orig-052); the December 2024 homepage leads with hydrogen and synthetic fuel from captured CO2 (orig-062); TechCrunch (February 2025) reported the aim of cheap hydrogen and synthetic fuels at up to 900 C; Valar's head of projects told the Trust Lands board that its 2024 Utah plan was to make fuels from coal-plant flue gas (mine-018, ppl-006); its December 2025 lobbying registration still describes 'clean hydrocarbon fuel production'. 2026: the July 1 event powered one NVIDIA chip and announced a 30 MW data-center study (orig-042); its BLM applications are titled 'Small Modular Reactor/Data Center' (mine-006); the Series B post leads with AI infrastructure; the Carbon County plan lists reactors, fuel manufacturing, hydrogen and synthetic fuels, data centers and steel (csite-001, csite-007). No record read shows Valar producing any hydrogen or synthetic fuel, and its homepage still offers hydrogen through a sulfur-iodine cycle, a process that an investor-published profile says has never been deployed commercially (orig-024). Plans can change honestly; the record shows the headline product moving from fuels toward AI power while the fuel claims stay on the site.

In plain termsValar started out saying it would use reactor heat to make hydrogen and gasoline-like fuels. In 2026 its headlines are about powering AI data centers. The fuel and hydrogen promises are still on its website, but no record shows it has made either. That does not make the plan false, but it is still only a plan.
